Wisdom Teeth Extraction
During evolution, the human jaw tends to shrink, often not allowing enough space for the third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth. Why is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth? The reason is to avoid possible complications, such as infections, cysts, or cavities of the adjacent teeth. It is advisable to remove wisdom teeth at a young age, as the body has better healing capacity at this time and possible complications are reduced.

Frequently Asked Questions about Wisdom Teeth
-
Is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth?
It is important to know that the removal of wisdom teeth is not systematic. If they have enough space and do not cause problems, it is not mandatory to remove them. However, when they cause pain, infection, or threaten to damage neighboring teeth, extraction becomes necessary. Being located at the back of the mouth, they are often susceptible to decay due to restricted access. They can sometimes be impacted (under the jaw) and cause headaches, pain, and infections. Additionally, their late eruption can lead to dental crowding. For all these reasons, your dentist may recommend the removal of these teeth.
-
Is my dentist responsible for my insurance?
No! Your dentist submits your claim requests during your appointments. However, it is important to understand that your dentist is not responsible for your insurance. Therefore, it is up to you to ensure the percentage of your coverage and the specifications of your insurer.
-
How often do I need dental check-ups, and are X-rays necessary?
It is recommended to have dental check-ups every six months. These check-ups, along with X-rays, are extremely helpful in preventing issues like tooth decay. Some things are invisible to the naked eye, which is why X-rays are highly recommended.
